Tour Preview: Where You’ll Go

Hermitage Hotel

Nashville’s first “million dollar hotel,” the Hermitage Hotel is known for its style and grace but also the various apparitions that roam the halls. Nightly occurrences include phantom cries from an infant child and Victorian women with haunting stares.

Tennessee State Capitol

Two of the Tennessee State Capitol’s designers are involved in an eternal squabble in the halls, and their phantom sounds interrupt politicians' work late into the night.

Skull’s Rainbow Room

Smack in the middle of bustling Printer’s Ally, this burlesque nightclub is haunted by two former owners who both once laid in a pool of blood near its doors.

The Hauntings of Nashville

Flashing lights and entertainment have been synonymous with Nashville since the days of riverboat and burlesque. These sin-filled nights have sprinkled small crumbs of a past filled with mayhem and murder. Underneath the neon lights are the phantoms of Nashville’s haunted history. Cholera epidemics, booze-filled violence, and illicit lifestyles have peppered the Music City with ghosts since its foundation in 1806.

After the Civil War ripped its way through the heart of Tennessee, the development of Nashville’s famed entertainment district created even more chaos. The Grand Old Opry and The Nashville sound cemented Nashville’s place as the Country Music Capitol of the World. Hank Williams is known to still appear at a few of his favorite locations from the afterlife. He is one of many starry-eyed creatures of the night still roaming the streets, forever seeking their fame and fortune.

The most haunted locations in Nashville are still home to the colorful characters that made up the city’s seedy backbone. Take a ghost tour with Nashville Ghosts while enjoying the nightlife on Broadway Street to learn the haunted history of America’s music capital.

The Most Haunted Places in Nashville, TN

Nashville’s most haunted locations are often far from downtown’s hustle and bustle. The Opryland Resort’s immensity does nothing to disguise the lady in black, who sometimes appears in red, roaming the hallways late at night. Nor does its neighbor, the Two Rivers Mansion, which has its own darkly clad female specter.

The Union Station Hotel right off Broadway is home to another spectral entity. A noisy spirit inhabits room 711, dragging furniture around and causing the temperature to plummet. No one seems to be able to get any rest in Nashville. The Nashville City Cemetery is full of thousands of the city’s earliest and most famous inhabitants, yet quite a few are seen above ground.

You’re fascinated by Nashville’s grim past

There’s a lot to love about Nashville. But before it was one of America’s most celebrated, vibrant cities, Nashville was ... the site of grim violence, political turmoil, and dark truths. Death is — literally — built into the walls of the Tennessee State Capitol, where the remains of businessman Samuel Morgan and his notorious archnemesis, architect William Strickland, are buried in vaults within the building. The two long-dead men have been reported to scream at each other in the middle of the night, continuing to bicker from beyond the grave, much to the horror of security guards and capitol staff.
